Symphony

Tonight Chris took me to the symphony and I absolutely loved it. It was a special benefit concert for Hurricane Katrina. The program was a good variety ranging from intense pieces, to more peaceful ones. At the end, as a special tribute to New Orleans, they played "When the Saints Come Marchin' In" and had purple, green and yellow mardi gras lights shine on the big organ in the background. All in all, it was a great performance.

Child Life

While reading some articles during practicum today, I found a good quote that describes child life. "Doctors take good care of the child's body, but child life specialists take good care of the child's soul." I just really liked that quote and thought it described child life pretty well. Another article said that the child life specialists' goal is to have children remember their hospital experience in a good light and build confidence for their future. That is all.

Long time, no see

Ok, ok, fine, i'll update. my weeks are starting to get really long and tiring. my classes this semester are becoming demanding and i started a practicum in child life at scottish rite. i really love it! i get to help with play rooms (which really isn't any different from my job) but i also get to come up with activities for the nursing unit and clinic waiting rooms. i've just been enjoying getting to know the patients - they're all so amazing. last week PAWS, the texas therapy dog group, came and it was so cute to see the dogs. one was even a salt and pepper miniature schnauzer....she couldn't beat my chloe though. let's see what else has been going on....oh yah, chris and i went to chicago for labor day, which was incredible. we stayed in a really cool hotel and walked ALL OVER the city. we went to the top of the sears tower, took an architecture boat cruise down the river, saw the blue man group perform, the aquarium, the heard museum and chris took me out to dinner at the signature room on the top of the hancock building. whew, it was a busy weekend and one of the best trips ever!

last night, chris and i went to a formal that was put on by his company. i wore a formal dress and he wore a tux!!! he was so cute! the formal was at the belo mansion downtown which was so beautiful. we had dinner, played some craps in the casino area and danced til the band stopped! after that, we and about three other couples from chris' work went to the bar at the hotel zaza and hung around there til closing. then we all went to cafe brazil in deep ellum, where we all got some interesting looks, since we were in formals and tuxes. got home around 4am....needless to say, it was a fun night!
